Dana. The Practice of Generosity.

It takes time to practice generosity, but being generous is the best use of our time.
— Thich Nhat Hanh

Giving (dana) is an essential part of our Buddhist practice. Through dana, we engage in generosity, openness, and strengthen our capacity to embrace others with compassion and love. Knowing that we exist in a state of interbeing, we understand that the happiness and well-being of others is also our own happiness and well-being.

While dana may be a financial contribution, it can also be a loving, compassionate act or an offering of our time and energy. The amount you give is not important. What is important is practicing our intention to give and to offer our help, understanding and willingness to contribute.

When we are in-person, we offer a box to collect dana at each of our weekly meetings. Details for mailing a check, cash or gift via Venmo are below.

Dana for First Light is used to cover our basic operating costs including meeting space rental when we meet in-person. We are currently donating the remaining funds on a quarterly basis to The Thich Nhat Hanh Foundation, the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe and ARISE Sangha.
